So the Irish are playing in the Pinstripe Bowl this year - nice! New York City, Yankee Stadium, and a relatively easy win over Rutgers. Still, it has to be a little disappointing, right? I mean, how many Notre Dame fans began the season thinking "sure hope we get to play in the Pinstripe Bowl!".
Never fear, Irish fans - I don't see it happening again in the near future.
You know the story by now - no bowl tie-ins, no BCS bid, so Notre Dame had to take what it could get. All things considered, the Pinstripe Bowl wasn't so bad... but next year things will be different: next year, Notre Dame has the ACC bowl arrangement to fall back on, and while it includes the Pinstripe Bowl, it's well down the list.
Which bowls are in play for Notre Dame next season? Of course that depends on what the team's record will be (I'm guessing 9-3). That probably gets you the Russell Athletic or Capital One Bowl (Orlando); if the record fallst o 8-4, I'm thinking Sun Bowl (El Paso). On the other hand, 10-2 probably nets a New Year's Bowl, and 12-0 or maybe even 11-1 puts you squarely in the college football playoffs (or at worst, the Orange Bowl).
Here are my thoughs - now I'd like to get yours.
