Jonathan Daniel

This week is full of delicious matchups.

We're all trying to bounce back after a tough week 5 against the spread.

LEAGUE STANDINGS

Our week 5 leaders were jpeters6, FirstDownMoses, and SacofRome, who went 14-11. Yeah, it wasn't a great week for us as everyone was under .500 except for 8 people.

Last week tjv was in a tie with BrokeRotaryCups for first place overall but now tjv has opened up a 3-game lead and stands alone in first place.

Now for this week's games...

BYU (+6) at Utah State

Pick: BYU

Utah State has looked very good this year with close losses to USC and Utah, plus they're coming off a destruction of San Jose State. I'll take the underdog here though. Both these teams lost by one score to Utah so I'll guess they are pretty even.

Air Force (+11.5) at Navy

Pick: Air Force

The Falcons have lost 4 straight and suspended their QB for the season. Navy is coming into this one after a loss to Western Kentucky and Vegas clearly likes them here. However, it's a rivalry game and I bet AFA hangs tough.

Maryland (+15.5) at Florida State

Pick: Florida State

With Maryland's hot start you'd think the spread wouldn't be this high. The sharps don't trust the Terps early season schedule or maybe they like Florida State to play a little better than giving up 34 points to Boston College.

Ball State (+5.5) at Virginia

Pick: Virginia

The Cavaliers are really struggling on offense this year averaging about 7 points per game against major conference opponents. Ball State is a quality MAC team but I'm take the tougher-than-you-think UVA defense to hold on, maybe notch a pick six, and allow Mike London's team to cover.

Penn State (-3.5) at Indiana

Pick: Penn State

Indiana's offense is quite spunky and can put up the points. I like the Penn State's defense though, they've played well under O'Brien and are coming off a bye week.

Michigan State (-1) at Iowa

Pick: Iowa

First touchdown wins.

North Carolina (+7.5) at Virginia Tech

Pick: Virginia Tech

The Hokies are probably the best team in the country that no one thinks is any good. Their defense is legit and back to their old ways. The Tar Heels are 1-3 and coming off an ugly loss to East Carolina. I'd think UNC gets back on the horse to cover here, but not on the road.

Army (+11.5) at Boston College

Pick: Boston College

Army straight up stinks and BC has been playing pretty well at home.

NC State (-8.5) at Wake Forest

Pick: NC State

In my years of doing these picks I've always thought the ACC was the toughest league to pick on a weekly basis.

Georgia Tech (+5) at Miami

Pick: Miami

Miami is my pick to win their division and I'm sticking with them. Although, I am a little afraid they play undisciplined against the triple option.

Kansas State (+14) at Oklahoma State

Pick: Oklahoma State

Last week's loss in Morgantown was a black spot for the Cowboys but damn if K-State isn't completely unproven and hasn't done anything worth a lick this year.

Minnesota (+19.5) at Michigan

Pick: Michigan

The Wolverines will bounce back with a solid win over the Gophers. I think they've had Minny's number in recent years.

Georgia (+10.5) at Tennessee

Pick: Georgia

I'm not sure what Vegas is thinking here, maybe a backdoor cover? Georgia's offense should pour it on in Knoxville.

Florida International (+17) at Southern Miss

Pick: Florida International

Both of these teams are terrible. I just can't count on Southern Miss to cover something this large.

Fresno State (-26) at Idaho

Pick: Fresno State

TCU (+10.5) at Oklahoma

Pick: Oklahoma

I'm concerned about a letdown after the game in South Bend, but then I think about TCU's offense which basically consists of Trevone Boykin running around with his head cut off.

Arkansas (+11) at Florida

Pick: Florida

I'm picking UF because what they do best can stop what Arkansas does best---that is running the ball. If this game wasn't in The Swamp I'd be tempted to take a flyer on the Hogs.

Ole Miss (-2.5) at Auburn

Pick: Ole Miss

Things will be much better for the Rebels once they realize they aren't playing Alabama.

LSU (-9.5) at Miss State

Pick: LSU

It's going to be tough for the Bulldogs to win a game in the SEC this year.

New Mexico State (+9) at New Mexico

Pick: New Mexico State

Just because I've taken too many favorites and Bob Davie could screw this one up.

Arizona State (-5.5) at Notre Dame

Pick: Arizona State

Nightmares of middle linebackers chasing Marion Grice...

Ohio State (-7) at Northwestern

Pick: Ohio State

I'm looking for a spectacular flop by the Cats in this one. Ohio State is slowly morphing into an unbeatable machine to other B1G teams.

West Virginia (+27.5) at Baylor

Pick: Baylor

You have to respect the fundamentals growing on that Baylor defense.

Washington (+7) at Stanford

Pick: Stanford

I took way too many favorites this week. I'm interested to see the Huskies in a possible conference defining upset win but Stanford has looked so, so good this year.
