Trying something different this time -- I've taken screenshots straight from my excel sheet. It certainly saved me a headache of trying to HTML format a table. If you guys have trouble reading it, get out the old man glasses, or just click each individual drive for a larger image.
Without further ado, here is this weeks Upon Further Review,
NOTRE DAME OFFENSE VS MICHIGAN STATE
Formation Notes: Again, a lot of Eifert at WR. As expected, with Wood back, we saw some 2-back sets, even some I-Form with Riddick at FB. HARRUMPH.
Substitution Notes: Saw a lot of the WRs rotating in. Base WR group was Jones, Toma, Smith. Really the 3rd WR was Eifert, but you get the idea.
X's and O's Nerd Notes: I've taken to calling the jet sweep tip pass the "Holgo Sweep" in honor of Sir Dana "Red Bull" Holgorsen. Also, this week marks the first sighting of the new hotness, packaged plays. ND was running a packaged play in the form of an outside Zone + Bubble Screen. It is a pre-snap read, so a little easier for EG to know what to do. Pretty exciting stuff for those of us who love X's and O's.
As always, let me know if you have questions about the ratings/plays.
SO ND IS BACK RIGHT?
I mean, I may or may not have a similar video to this one, but ND-Centric:
HOW DID THE OL' PIGSKINNERS DO OUT THERE IN EAST LANSING?
EG: +8 / -5.5 = +3.5
--
Toma: +7 / -1 = +6
Jones: +5 / 0 = +5
Goodman: +2 / 0 = +2
Smith: +1 / -1 = 0
--
Eifert: +2 / 0 = +2
Niklas: +3 / +2.5 = +0.5
Koyack: +2.5 / -2 = +0.5
--
Wood: +5.5 / -2 = +3.5
GA3: +4 / -2 = +2
Riddick: +2.5 / -1 = +1.5
--
[Ratio is more important for OL. Do your job, and you don't show up on film.]
Watt: +3 / -2
Martin: +2 / -2
Cave: +2 / -2.5
Golic: +3.5 / -4.5
Lombard: +0.5 / -2.5
Overall Pass Protection: 16/22 (72.7%)
PBURNS WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN
It means everyone was pretty solid. Toma & Jones stepped up in the absence of Daniels.
WHAT CAN WE GO TO NDNATION AND COMPLAIN ABOUT?!
Golson's inaccuracy in this game was pretty bad. 5 uncatchable balls, a majority of which were on short screen passes. Add to that the others were overthrown sure TDs, and it makes you think what may have been. Hopefully he can dial it in some, and keep that number to 1-2, on deep throws only.
Golson's Line: 5 DO - 8 CA - 2 MA - 5 IN - 2 BR. (3 TH - 1 SCR - 2 PR)
WHAT ABOUT MICHIGAN, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO SEE?
Lots of inside zone and outside zone to the left side of the line. Probably that same packaged play with the bubble screen.
Also, and this is a hunch, I think next week is the week we let EG get his legs going on some zone read/inverted veer plays. That is, if we're not stuffing it down UM's face with simple inside/outside zone (also a possibility, IMO).
