Condolences to the family
Not sure what else to say at this point. He had a remarkable career that will forever be stained by the news of the last few months.
I read today that Paterno kept on coaching because he didn’t want what happened to Bear Bryant to happen to him. What a sad irony.
I don't tweet often--but when I do, you can be sure it isn't important.
@jemiesle
It is a very tough one to address.
For those close to him and Penn State there is much to process. I really do wish them the best in that endeavor.

As bad as this scandal is, i do hope that time allows for the brighter parts of your legacy to rise to the top.
I don't hope that at all.
Some things are unforgivable. Call the damn police immediately. He’s going to be remembered precisely for what he should be remembered, the overlord of the university that knowingly abetted the most infamous serial child rapist this country has ever seen. If that heinous crime happened to you or your family member, I don’t think you would be so kind.
The abuse far outshadows his records.
What happened on the field is just a game, the abuse is all too real.

JoePa's legacy is not only what happened on the field
In his decades as a coach he had a major positive effect on many people. It is tragic that he did not do more about Sandusky, but his worst mistake should not be all that defines him.
when it involves serial child molestation it should indeed define him
I agree he did a lot for a lot of people, but his handling (or unwillingness to handle) Sandusky’s perverted activities overshadows everything else JoePa did.

May he rest in peace
I cannot and will not applaud the death of another human being.
He did a lot of good in this world and turned a blind eye to a lot of bad. If there is an afterlife he will be judged there and it is not my place to do so.
Prayers go out to his family who lost a husband, a father, and a grandfather today.

I agree.

I was never a JoPa fan. I’m totally uncomfortable with what happened with Sandusky and believe child abuse to be one of the most heinous of crimes. His punishment will be the permanent taint on his record. We don’t need to pile on ourselves. None of us are the epitome of perfection.
IF IT TAKES FOREVER!!
