Now it is official.
Notre Dame will battle the Seminoles of Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl.
The game starts at 5:30 PM on Thursday December 29, 2011 on ESPN.
Despite Florida State's disappointing season (hey, we know something about that!) this is still a pretty exciting matchup. The Seminoles have a pretty stout defense that is going to make it very hard for Notre Dame to move the ball in Michael Floyd's last game in the blue and gold.
Florida State is also one of the few teams to own a winning record against Notre Dame as well.
The Seminoles are 4-2-0 against the Irish with victories in 1981, 1994, 1996, and 2003.
Notre Dame won the contests in 1993 and 2002.
Florida State has been ranked in all of these games, and that trend will continue later this month as the Seminoles come into bowl season at No. 25 in the AP Poll.
There will be more previews of this game coming in a couple weeks. After the jump a quick look at the rest of the announced bowl games.

Top 5 Bowls
5. Capital One Bowl---South Carolina vs. Nebraska
Pretty good name power from both programs and players. Both teams have a colorful coach roaming the sidelines. South Carolina has the opportunity to end the season ranked very high, while Nebraska will look to win its first bowl game as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
4. Sugar Bowl---Virginia Tech vs. Michigan
Who's going to be favored in this game? Is Virginia Tech laughably overrated? Can Michigan win its first bowl game in a while? Will the gravy train led by Hokemania keep rolling along with a Wolverine victory?
3. Rose Bowl---Oregon vs. Wisconsin
I'm not too confident that Wisconsin can handle Oregon's offense for four quarters. Still, this should be an interesting matchup in power vs. finesse---I'm guessing the latter wins out though.
2. BCS Title Game---LSU vs. Alabama
This game has to be here for many reasons, but it's not number one.
I don't feel like saying anything else about it.
1. Fiesta Bowl---Oklahoma State vs. Stanford
Likely the most important bowl game of the season. If Oklahoma State wins there will be an awful lot of questions about this system---not like there aren't anyway.
What if Alabama wins and the Cowboys do too?
Besides those story lines, this looks to be a really great game anyway. It is the last college game for Andrew Luck after all. He'll probably want to go out on a high note.
