The 2011 Notre Dame Uniform Survey

"Maybe there is and maybe there isn't, but when you put on a Notre Dame uniform you feel it [the spirit], and you play for it." ~George Connor

Star-divide

"Our jerseys have an interlocking N.D. on the sleeve, a number on the front and back, no names, and we wear black Adidas shoes. People ask me why we wear black shoes, and I said, 'I didn't think the players would like brown ones.' People complained because we don't have names on our jerseys, and I said, 'You should feel lucky we have numbers on them.' It has the N.D. and that says it all." ~Lou Holtz

Since One Foot Down has brought you a history pictorial all of the Notre Dame uniforms over the years, we wanted to get your opinion on this topic and see what you like and dislike.

So we present to you the 2011 Notre Dame Uniform Survey.

1. 2001-03 Adidas Shamrock collar. Love the traditional look that Lou Holtz and Brian Kelly have, ND interlocking logo, no stripes, and black shoes are a must. Leprechan, small, should be on back of helmet and green shamrock placed under back collar ( yoke), like Boston Celtics use under back collar on their jerseys.
2. 1981-83 Northwestern Stripe
3. Maybe once in a while. Like it on the basketball team.
4. NO. Black should be used only for the shoes.
5. I would like to see the ND gold a little more yellow. Somewhere between Vegas Gold and Old Gold. But Helmets and pants must match. Looks bad having Old Gold pants and Vegas Gold helmets.
6. NO. Gold pants only.
7. tie, ND monogram and the shamrock are the best logos so far at bottom of collar
8. Only putting a small shamrock on back of helmet. Liked the look honoring Declan Sullivan. Should keep the small shamrock or leprechaun on back of helmet with the USA flag on back as well.
9. Yes, the leprechaun would look nice on pants, or back of helmet. Keep it small, but find a place. Maybe put small on back of helmet, and put shamrock under back collar (yoke).
10. 9
11. Green jersey for truly epic games.
12. 2010 green.
13. once in a while for epic games.
14. Painted field. If a Shamrock is put on the helmet has to be small, and on the back of the helmet.
15. Adidas, I am afraid Nike would go away from tradition.
16. No names ever.

1. I. 2001-03 Adidas Shamrock collar
2. E. 1981-83 Northwestern striped
3. A. Yes, outlaw the gold from the regular season
4. B. No, no black ever
5. B. No, the old gold is ug-ly
6. D. No to both – pants should be gold
7. B. Shamrock
8. B. No shamrock on helmet
9. A. Sure, bring on the leprechaun
10. 3 – For the Holy Trinity
11. C. Green is for epic games only
12. G. 2005 green
13. A. Sure, why not – but only for epic road games
14. B. Painted field, but only if there’s a gun to my head
15. Who cares, as long as they don’t mess with the tradition
16. A. No names ever

I find it surprising how many people wouldn’t ban the gold jerseys, but don’t support a black jersey.

Not saying either look should happen, but the gold look is so terribly awful that I thought not many people would vote for it. I get that gold is a school color and black isn’t, but the way the uniforms looked last year they were basically black, and just from an aesthetic standpoint a black uniform wouldn’t look TOO bad.

In contrast, you can’t come up with a worse look than an all-gold uniform. You just can’t. Just look at the 49ers as an example:

Yes Oder, Swarbrick has a gun to your head.

MAKE YOUR DECISION NOW!!!

The all gold uniforms made us look too much like Georgia Tech.

I could go for small shamrocks at the base of the helmet and a small leprechaun.

I’d lean towards Vegas Gold pants, but would like to see something in-between. Agree with Irish Thunder about not contrasting the helmets and pants.

For an epic game, I’d like to see names on the back – but those of a famous ND player. #3 – Montana, #25 – Ismael, #89 – Brown, #32 – Lujack, etc.

The first picture is okay, it’s at least similar to what I’d like to see the team wear on the road (white jersey, green numbers, gold pants, etc.) but I could do without the yellow trim.

The second picture, while I applaud your effort, especially in switching it to Adidas, just can’t happen. It looks like a tacky leisure suit from the 70’s.

by Eric Murtaugh on Mar 23, 2011 8:17 AM EDT reply actions

What I really want to see is Metallic Green pants with blue home jerseys and Gold Away jerseys. Flanked Green sides on both. ND logo on Sleeve, Dome under collar, Leprechaun on socks, Numbers in Gold or Blue outlined in Green, no names, Gold Helmets, small shamrock on back of helmet. Green Trim on Collar.

I also like the Yoke, do it in Green on both Jerseys instead of the Flanking. I’d be happy with either. Also switch collar trim to color of Jersey if using Yoke.

All Gold is Vegas Gold.

Eric, keep up the good work!

Derek,

Don’t let NDNation read that…they will try you for treason!

The Mardi Gras look will not fly!

I would like to see the helmet a shinier gold, like the helmets worn in the Holtz era. The helmets today don’t have that shine.

by BR on Mar 28, 2011 3:12 PM EDT reply actions

No they do not. The new paint used last year didn’t work, except to prevent chipping.
