Irish Pro Day- News and Notes
Notre Dame had 14 players audition for NFL Scouts today and it sounds like a few of them made the most of it.
While Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate appear to be locks to go high the rest of these players are hoping to be late round pickups or to catch on somewhere as free agents. Best of luck to all of them.

It is convenient that the Jimmy isn’t running for any Pro Teams. He is not going to run because his 40 is in the 5.1 range. On this website we have seen some talk about the WWL and their disgusting love for Teebow. Isn’t it time we got the flipside of that coin, and the current love fest for Jimmy? Kiper is looking for some man love from that kid. What has he done that convinces anyone that he will be such a great pro quarterback? HOLD ON, STATS coming.

3 QB’s
One 1110 attempts, 695 completions, 62.6%, 8184 yds, 60 TDs, 27INT, 7.1 yds/ATT, record 15-21
Two 995 attempts, 661 completions, 66.4%, 9285 yds, 88 TDs, 16 INT, 9.1 yds/ATT, record 33-6
Three 893 attempts, 604 completions, 67.6%, 8403 yds, 88 TDs, 16 INT, 9.4yds/ATT, record 25-5
Who do you want as your QB next year. All major college QBs. Name a great NFL QB with a losing record in college.
Stop the madness.

I love that I can always count on you to come by and stir the pot. I would say this topic falls under a larger discussion that really probably merits its own post. It is the old school argument about pro style vs. spread/option/running QBs coming out of college. The pro style kids almost always get the love in the draft. I also think Kiper and McShay might be feeding off of their opposing viewpoints on Clausen. Maybe Kiper’s praise is driven further by McShay’s continued mentioning of “character issues.” Who knows? I do know this. If I could choose right now whether or not Dayne Crist will win 2 BCS Championships or be a first round draft pick, as a college football fan, I’ll take the former every time.
Tebow had a great run, enjoy it. Some day you can yammer on to the little man about how you saw him tear it up live back in 2009. If you miss him too much you can go to Gainesville and get a picture with that sweet “promise” plaque of his. Tebow might even make my list of deadliest dual threat QBs of all time. I’ll give him an honorable mention behind Vince Young, Tommie Frazier and Tony Rice when I finally get around to starting the OFD Ring of Honor.

I will give you Vince Young, and Tommie but Tony Rice? Please. I heard that teammates were cheering when the Jimmy got popped in the eye at that bar. I don’t see the super high character for that kid. Remember when he committed to ND, NFL hall of fame? Really? The other numbers up top are from Bradford. Kiper said today that the Jimmy is more of a lock than that kid. His gag reflex must be fully engaged at this point. No comment on the 5.1 forty? Can the kid dunk a basketball? He might actually have worse mobility than Chris Leak. If he throws up 225 for Pro Day I would give him up to 6 or 7 reps. I am being generous.

Have you come up with a great pro qb with a losing record in college yet? Even Eli had a winning record at Ole Miss.

Tony Rice was a bad mofo. He was also the Fiesta Bowl MVP when ND last won a title which naturally pushes him into my permanent Top 5. As for Clausen running the guy just played 9 games with torn ligaments in his toe that technically should have ended his season. When he gets around to running again he won’t set the world on fire but neither will a lot of NFL QB’s.
I don’t really care what Kiper & McShay say either. At the end of the day they are getting paid to turn TV’s on. I tend to think some of their “opinions” are scripted to be slightly controversial just for that reason much like the Mark May vs. Holtz gimmick that goes on during the season. Bottom line the WWL is getting tiresome and I really don’t watch it too much these days outside of actual game broadcasts. As for the Clausen character “issue” I really think its a moot point. The CFB HOF thing has been re-hashed as often as Charlie’s “decided schematic advantage” but he actually seemed to stay fairly low key once he was on campus. There are random stories about him being jerk etc. but it never seemed to translate onto the field. He was elected as a captain by his teammates and as far as I know none of them ever seemed to have any real issues with him. He played tough and ultimately played very well.
There were also a lot of factors that went into his overall W/L record but I honestly don’t think he is personally to blame for them. I watched every snap he took at ND (most more than once) and by the time it was all over I thought he was not only a great QB but a tough competitor as well. I feel bad for guys like Clausen and Tate that their legacy is tainted by a W/L record that had little to do with their personal effort.
So Clausen or Bradford? I will be surprised if Bradford doesn’t go before Clausen does. What happens after that will be interesting.

Dude,
He had torn ligaments in his big toe. It is not like he beat FSU with a broken arm— or won the high school state championship with a broken femur… Oh that’s Teebow.
I just hope my cowboys don’t get that dude. Tate or Floyd- that is a different story.

You crack me up. Keep stopping by. I’m looking forward to watching you mix it up with some of the new visitors that have been stopping by here since the move. Good stuff.
